Research Insights

  • Clear distinction between a traditional Hindi font and what now feels like 'internet' fonts (less preferred).
  • Organic letter formations with good negative space interaction often appear to be better than the ones with a monotonous tone.
  • Spacing, Kerning and leading is a crucial part of judging typeface which if not done right, renders your well done letterforms useless.
  • The more 'taller' the letterforms are, the more compressed and hard to read they become. Wide counters create better reading flow.
  • Fonts with high stroke contrast become too sharp or 'edgy' and become disturbing when reading in a body text format.



Brief

Derive a Devanagari typeface that stays true to the script and has its root in the original structures. It should remain independent of any other script and tackle the issues present in the existing typefaces.
