Understanding Devanagari
Script, Calligraphy, Anatomy & TerminologyResearch Insights
- Clear distinction between a traditional Hindi font and what now feels like 'internet' fonts (less preferred).
- Organic letter formations with good negative space interaction often appear to be better than the ones with a monotonous tone.
- Spacing, Kerning and leading is a crucial part of judging typeface which if not done right, renders your well done letterforms useless.
- The more 'taller' the letterforms are, the more compressed and hard to read they become. Wide counters create better reading flow.
- Fonts with high stroke contrast become too sharp or 'edgy' and become disturbing when reading in a body text format.
